    Ruter Dam of the Year 2019 Carina Åkerström, CEO Handelsbanken RUTER DAM OF THE YEAR 2019 - CARINA ÅKERSTRÖM ​ Ruter Dam of the Year 2019 is Carina Åkerström, who since March this year has been president and CEO of Handelsbanken. Handelsbanken has approximately 12,000 employees and last year had an operating profit of just over SEK 22 billion. Carina has a long and successful career within the bank where she has achieved strong results over a long period of time. She started at the bank in 1986 and has, among other things, been vice president, manager of the regional bank in eastern Sweden and regional bank manager in Stockholm. She is the first woman to lead Handelsbanken. - Carina Åkerström is a very qualified person with a solid track record. She has the will and ability to implement change and lead the way for the necessary transformation that the bank is facing with digitization, efficiency and cost savings. Carina is a true female role model, we are extra proud of the fact that she also attended Ruter Dam's program in 2004, says Marika Lundsten, CEO Ruter Dam. ​ The selection process for the Årets Ruter Dam honorary award takes into account the company's size, turnover, number of employees and the female manager's degree of power and influence. The award winner is appointed by Ruter Dam's board: chairman Gunnel Duveblad, board professional, Gunilla Ahrén, founder Ruter Dam, Ann Carlsson, CEO Apoteket AB, Malin Persson, board professional and Eva Krutmeijer, CEO and founder EKKO AB. Ruter Dam's board continuously monitors appointments at the highest management levels. At a jury meeting, the board decides which woman during the year has been given the greatest responsibility in terms of number of employees, turnover and overall responsibility. - I am happy and proud to have been selected as Ruter Woman of the Year. The work that Ruter Dam does to draw attention to female leadership is very important. Equality is today strategically crucial to being able to recruit talented employees, and the more perspectives managers and employees contribute, the better they understand their customers. Equality is simply good for profitability, says Carina Åkerström. ​ The Ruter Dam Honorary Award of the Year is awarded annually in the form of a diploma and the honor in connection with the Ruter Dam Day, a seminar for participants from Ruter Dam's Leadership Development and Mentoring Program.     Ruter Dam of the year 2020 Helena Helmersson, CEO H&M-group ÅRETS RUTER DAM 2020 - HELENA HELMERSSON Helena Helmersson, CEO of the H&M Group, has been named Ruter Dam of the Year 2020 – an honorary award, awarded to the woman who has been promoted to the most influential management position in Swedish business during the past year. This year's Ruter Dam is Helena Helmersson, who since January this year is ceo of the H&M Group. Helena has a long and successful career within the H&M Group where she started working as a controller at the age of 23. Followed by several different roles in purchasing, logistics and production, but it was primarily the role of global sustainability manager, and her years as HR manager in Bangladesh, that characterized her the most. In 2018, she was appointed chief operating officer with responsibility for expansion, logistics, production, IT, advanced data analysis and AI. Two years later was appointed CEO. Hennes & Mauritz was founded in Västerås in 1947 and has more than 5,000 stores in 74 countries. Today, the H&M Group has approximately 179,000 employees and in 2019 net sales amounted to SEK 233 billion. – Helena Helmersson has already proved to be more than qualified for the role of CEO after she managed to steer the H&M Group towards a rapid recovery despite a nightmare start. Her guiding principle and main driving force is sustainability and she is passionate about leading the fashion industry towards a sustainable future.     Who we are Ruter Dam is a Executive Development and Mentoring program for female senior leaders, which was founded in 1987 by Gunilla Arhén who is now an honorary member of Ruter Dam's board. The aim is to improve the number of female managers reaching a high-level position in Swedish business. Since the beginning, more than 1 300 women have participated in Ruter Dam's one-year program and a unique business network has been established. The program includes lectures, networking and mentorship by both internal and external business leaders with the aim to develop strategic, operational and personal leadership. After finishing the program, you have the opportunity to become a member of Ruter Dam's Business Network , which is available to everyone who has attended Ruter Dam. The aim is to create a professional business network through meetings and seminars such as exclusive invitations to visit companies to share experiences of business as well as challenges. In 2017, Ruter Dam's subprogram Spader Ess was introduced. This is a program for younger women at the start of their careers where former Ruter Dam participants act as mentors. The business is characterized by Professionalism, Quality and Results.
