Network meeting in Gothenburg on the theme of nuclear power and conditions for a sustainable society

We got to listen to our guest speaker Ingeborg Grötterud, RD10, Business Unit Manager Nuclear Sweden, AFRY.

Ingeborg has worked with nuclear power for more than 20 years. During lunch, she shared about the continued development and showed how we can create opportunities for the energy transition and conditions for a sustainable society together.

Some Key Takeaways from Lunch:

♦️ 10% of the world's electricity comes from nuclear power, Sweden has the most electricity from nuclear power per capita, every fourth lamp is lit with nuclear power.

♦️ We must double our energy production by 2050 to reach the set consumption targets.

♦️ Sweden has a lot of fossil-free electricity, but we have a major imbalance between production and distribution.

♦️ A decision has been made that we will invest in nuclear power. Nuclear power is considered a green, renewable energy source in the EU.

♦️ Restrictions have been removed. The maximum ceiling of 10 nuclear power plants is gone and now additional reactors can also be built in places where there are already facilities.

♦️ The small nuclear reactors (SMRs) of the future are cheaper and efficient, and can also be used to produce hydrogen, ammonia and district heating, among other things.

♦️ Sweden has got a national nuclear power coordinator, with the aim of increasing the rate of establishment of new reactors.

Right now, it is being investigated how the expansion will be financed and how we can speed up permit processes. We also have a challenge that there is a lack of competence in this area.

The next chapter in Swedish nuclear power history is now being written and we will follow the exciting development going forward.

Thank you to Ingeborg for everything you shared and thank you to everyone who came for a nice and inspiring lunch together.
